Tuesday 2 March 2021

Kia Ora Parents/Cargivers/Guardians, Students and Whanau,

A big thank you to all of you who joined our morning meeting today Tuesday the 2nd of March 2021.

Here is what we covered:

Today's calendar (it is a new month - March and it is a new season Autumn), we did counting in Te Reo from 1 to 10 with Mo: Counting in Te Reo with Mo We read a shared book called Jack and the Beanstalk retold  by Kylie Parry, we revisited our Math's Eyes thinking from yesterday (Monday the 1st of March 2021) and we did some new Maths thinking about all the numbers we know.

Here are some activities I would like you to work on for today:

Phonics: The letter for today is Tt - can you draw 4 pictures of something beginning with the letter t that you can find in your home? It could be a television, a toothbrush, a cup of tea, or a table. Make sure you share your findings with me - either on class dojo, by email or posting here on the blog.

Maths: Can you write all the numbers you know? Can you get to 20? Can you get to 50?

Math's Eyes: There is a new image up on dojo (and I will post it below too), can you tell me what you notice? It could be the shapes, the colours, what there is more of or less of, and even the sizes - there are no such things are wrong answers. Let me know what you see.

Shared Book activity: Can you draw a beanstalk with you on it. What is at the top of the beanstalk through the clouds? Is it a candyland? A forest? A castle? A beach? Who is there? Fairies? Giants? Trolls? Smirfs? What valuable item did you find that will help your family live happily ever after? A golden goose? A treasure chest? A magic wand? A fridge that never runs out of yummy food? Please share it with me and don't forget to share it with me tomorrow at the morning meet at 10 am.

Whatever you end up doing, please take care and be safe at home in your bubble.

stay safe

Today in our morning meeting we discussed the calendar and ho0w it is a new month (the 1st of March 2021), which means it is a new date 01.3.21 and a new season: Autumn. Then we counted in Te Reo from 1 (Tahi) to 20 (Rua Tekau) just like we do in class at school every morning.

We then discussed what we do when we wear our Math's eyes and how we notice that Math's is all around us. It is in Lego, mine craft, baking and shopping. I asked the students to look at our Math's Eyes picture for today and to comment in the post what they notice. Students why not take a look at the image below, tell your whānau what you notice and then comment on this blog!?

The children were also asked to find items around their house and create piles of 10 and 20 with them. I would love to receive pictures of what the students found, and how they counted and arranged their piles of 10.

Our shared big book today was Jack and the Beanstalk - the students were asked to discuss with their parents what they would do if they discovered a giant beanstalk in their back yard that lead to a magical castle in the clouds. Would you climb it? Why would you climb it? Why wouldn't you climb it? What do you think you might find up there in the clouds?

Today's letter of the day is T - can you find items around your home that begin with the letter T? Did you know you can send your drawings, pictures and creations to Mrs Futcher's email and she will post them all here and on class dojo?

Email address:  r.futcher@papakuracentral.school.nz

Some of the students from Room 19 have been working hard at home with support from their parents. Today we were looking for our letter of the day Tt items around the house. Zaydan found: Toilet, Toys, Television and Table:

Zaydan's box of toys

Zaydan's television

Zaydan's toilet

Zaydan's table

Carter created a cage for his Tyrannosaurus Rex (T-Rex). The T-Rex had a chain around his neck also to keep him from breaking free and creating havoc - great idea Carter:

The students were also asked on the morning meeting, to create piles of 10 from household items:

Here Zaydan has lots of piles of 10 using his toys:

Carter counts 1 pile of 10 spoons

Carter had another pile of 10 cars

Taylor created a lego marble run. I posted a video of his trial run on class dojo for you all to take a look at. Here is a picture of his lego marble run creation:

Zaydan also did one of his puzzles today:

Thank you to all the students and parents who have engaged in the distance home learning and joined in this mornings meet. I appreciate you all sharing the fun with me. Thanks also to everyone who has been looking at this blog and the classroom dojo site. It is wonderful to have you all here, engaging with me and our super star class!

If you haven't yet, I do hope you all will post, comment, email and share your child's/children's learning with me, so I can share it with our Room 19 fans, supporters and community, here and on dojo. Being engaged and participating in our class community of learning and exploration gives us all a unique sense of partnership and belonging.

In the meantime - take care, stay home where you can, be safe and I look forward to seeing/hearing from you all soon.

Arohanui,
